What can be mistaken for peripheral neuropathy?
Peripheral neuropathy is the most common, impacting 7 in 10 diabetics, among others. PN is often mistaken for another common illness, multiple sclerosis (MS). Can peripheral neuropathy be misdiagnosed? Neuropathy is often misdiagnosed due to its complex array of symptoms. Is it peripheral neuropathy or something else? Many times it is both. Peripheral neuropathy, regardless of cause, is a nerve issue. Some damage process, whether that is from diabetes, chemotherapy, autoimmune issues, heavy metal poisoning or some physical damage, hurts the nerves.
