Why do Boxer dogs get their tails cut off?
Boxers belong to the Working Group of dogs, and historically their naturally floppy ears were cropped (cut and made to stand upright) and their long tails docked short in order to enhance their performance as working dogs. Why do you cut the tails off boxers? Tail-docking Boxers started back when they were used primarily to chase down, capture, corner, and hold large game like bears, boars, and even fight bulls. The tails of these dogs were cut short to protect them from attacking beasts and because it was believed that shorter tails allowed the dogs to run faster.
